Bio
Few people have worked successfully in as many aspects of the music business as Matt Sonzala. From booking his first concerts and indie tours at age 17, to his current position as one of the countries top event marketers, Sonzala is an in demand industry jack of all trades.
Known almost universally throughout the industry, his network of professionals, insiders and artists is rivaled by none. He can open doors that many can’t and has connected top artists, brands, companies and individuals on just about every level of the business.
He is perhaps most widely known as the man who brought hip-hop to prominence at the South By Southwest Music Festival, to the point where the genre now dominates the programming. He stepped down from the company to work with Red Bull in the creation of their Sound Select program which is an incubator of sorts for up and coming bands that provides opportunities outside of the typical music industry box. As a consultant for the program he worked to bring in the artists, curators and partners and produced events and experiences for them all.
Matt Sonzala is also an acclaimed music journalist, having penned major features for magazines like The Source, XXL, Spin, Vibe, Village Voice and more. As the internet began overtaking the print world he started one of the first, and most influential music blogs of the blog era, HoustonSoReal and was a forerunner in what social media was to become.
Matt has booked events in Houston, Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, London, Amsterdam, Oslo, Bergen, Vienna, Berlin, Barcelona, Madrid, Toronto, Montreal, Lagos, Johannesburg and many more cities around the world.
He has worked with top brands like Red Bull, Hennessey, Cazadores, Scion, General Motors, Budweiser, The Fader, Mass Appeal, MySpace, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Frito Lay and many more.
He is very literally a renaissance man and a highly in demand consultant.
