Bio

Grammy Award Winning Recording/Mixing Engineer Clarke Schleicher was very active in music from an early age starting with the trumpet in 4th grade, tuba in 5th grade and electric bass in 8th grade. By the time he graduated from Atherton High School in 1976, Clarke had played tuba in the Atherton marching band for 3 years and the University of Louisville Symphony Band for 1 year. He also played electric bass in a local rock band and in jazz ensembles with Louisville musician and educator Mike Tracy. Clarke’s fascination with recorded music started when his father asked him to record training seminars he was presenting for the Air Force Reserve. After Clarke finished editing his father’s speeches, he would record his favorite songs off the radio and practice editing them. After graduation Clarke decided to pursue recording engineering as a profession and enrolled in Middle Tennessee State University. While in college, he continued playing music, pursued audio engineering and minored in business management. In 1980 he graduated from MTSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Recording Industry Management and immediately started working as a recording engineer and studio manager for the legendary music publishing company Cedarwood Publishing in Nashville, TN until 1984. From 1984 to 1987 he worked as a recording engineer at the Bennett House Studios where he recorded for Neil Young, Amy Grant and Dion among others. This lead him to becoming an independent recording engineer from the 1990s to the present. During this period he has been a staple in Nashville studios working with the industry’s top producers, artists and musicians. The artists he recorded for includes Joan Baez, Martina McBride, Taylor Swift, Sara Evans, Marie Osmond, The Chicks, Pam Tillis, Mark Chesnutt, The Band Perry, Blake Shelton, Lady A, Dan + Shay, Jake Owen, Lee Brice and many more. In 2005 Clarke began managing Warner Brother’s Records Recording Studios while still working as an independent recording engineer. In 2010 he won the prestigious Grammy for Record of the Year for his work on Lady A’s single “Need You Now”. Clarke also won a second Grammy for country album of the year 2010 and a 3rd Grammy for country album of the year 2011 all for his work with Lady A. Clarke has been nominated for ACM Engineer of The Year twice. At the end of 2019 Warner Music Nashville closed their recording studios and Clarke returned to independent mixing and recording engineering full time. He built a mixing studio in his home in 2020 and currently mixes for a wide range of clients as well as consulting with WMN on their recently constructed ATMOS studio facility.
