Radio Free Marseille

Radio Free Marseille targets the English speaking audience in Marseille and the rest of the South of France, but has many global listeners. Despite this, we have received a lot of great music in languages other than English. Many artistes tell us that it is hard to get non-English language music played on radio, even in their own countries, so we have decided to increase the volume of our foreign language music, particularly French, in order to give more airtime to all the 'undiscovered' talent out there. We will shortly be transmitting a programme called Foreign Affairs, on a regular basis, in order to accommodate this. Our aim is not to be obtrusively 'different', but to play music that isn't really heard on many other stations. In view of that we play music from all genres, but generally avoid mainstream pop music and 'oldies' programmes, as these can be heard on so many other stations. We are particularly interested in receiving Jazz, World Music, Alternative Pop and Rock, Folk and interesting fusion music. Generally though, we are happy to receive any submissions of broadcast quality We know there is lots of great music out there, that isn't getting the exposure it deserves and we want to hear it. We don't guarantee to make you a household name, overnight, but we can certainly get the ball rolling! Richard Pearson, the founder of Radio Free Marseille, started working at BBC Radio 1 in the 1970s and then moved to BBC network tv, where he produced music content, working on well over 1,000 programmes. Artistes worked with include Pete Gabriel, Dionne Warwick, Ian Dury, Barney Kessel, Elvis Costello, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Robert Fripp, Jose Carreras, Charles Aznavour etc, with UK tv debuts being given to Dr John/Mac Rebennack and King Sunny Ade and his African Beats, amongst others. He remained with BBC for ten years before going freelance in various areas of music production, creation and promotion, before semi-retiring. He was lured out of retirement in 2015 to run Radio Scarborough, eventually gaining the station an FM licence. Richard Pearson stepped down from Radio Scarborough FM in 2022, in order to launch Radio Free Marseille. PLEASE NOTE: WHEN WE AGREE TO PLAY A TRACK ON AIR, WE ALWAYS ASK ARTISTES TO SEND THE TRACK IN MP3 FORMAT, WITH ARTISTE NAME AND TRACK TITLE METADATA, ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF ARTISTES IGNORE THIS REQUEST. WE DO NOT HAVE THE TIME TO GO BACK THROUGH OUR FILES LINKING TITLES TO ARTISTES, AS WE RECEIVE HUNDREDS OF MUSIC SUBMISSIONS EVERY WEEK. IF YOU DON'T EMBED THIS INFO, WE WILL NOT PLAY YOUR TRACK. Airplay, with supportive advice.
