Bio

My name is Jake O’Brien, also known by my screen name “JakePutMeOn”. Currently, I'm an artist manager and A&R at Structure Music Group, a management company based in New Orleans, Louisiana, as well as a writer at the internet blog EarlyRising, and a freelance videographer/photographer. In late 2018, I began my career in music as a writer for a Massachusetts-based blog called GraduationMusic. Once I was given a position there, I spent the next year and a half assembling artist discovery pieces, conducting full-scale interviews, and delivering consistent video, single, and project reviews that primarily highlighted Massachusetts’ best new music. Ultimately, over the course of that year and a half, I wrote for 4 different blogs in total. During this time, I also started to assist Massachusetts-based artists with single and project releases. Depending on what was needed at the time, I played slightly different roles. At varying levels I performed the duties of graphic designer, photographer, videographer, marketer, public relator, and A&R. Additionally, I helped throw multiple successful shows and events in Boston and the surrounding suburbs. While attending and playing football at a college in Massachusetts, it became abundantly clear that taking the next step in my music career was long overdue. So, I began to converse with the founder of the New Orleans-based management company Structure Music Group. Eventually, in the spring of 2020, I was offered and accepted a position within the company as an artist manager and A&R. In an effort to perform my duties more effectively, I moved from Massachusetts to New Orleans, Louisiana. Since joining structure music group, I've handled day-to-day management responsibilities for artists like TyFontaine and NCognita, assisted with countless single and project releases, created various styles of social content, conducted business negotiations representing structure artists, handled label-artist relations, and further expanded Structure Music Group's network as a whole. After spending a little under two years there in New Orleans, and an additional summer in Los Angeles working closely with Structure Music Group artists, I've returned to Massachusetts to continue broadening Structure's network and assist local artists in any way I can. On Groover, my goal is to provide genuine and constructive feedback to aspiring, up & coming hip-hop/rap artists, find some diamonds in the rough to write about for EarlyRising, and connect with like-minded rap enthusiasts across the globe. I look forward to listening!

As a writer and contributor at a relatively notable internet blog covering up & coming musicians, I'm in a position to highlight music that I believe strongly in. However, as a disclaimer, this is unfortunately not a guarantee. The music not only has to mesh with MY passion and taste but also align in the same way with other writers at the blog as well. I say this not to discourage anyone looking to submit their music to me, as I can guarantee genuine and constructive critique to everyone willing to submit their music, but as a way to be honest and open. In addition, my own Instagram profile is used as a promotion tool, to highlight artists I believe in and enjoy. I've been able to gather a very small, but potent following of music industry members, writers, videographers, and more who frequently check in to see what I'm listening to. Unlike the blog mentioned above, if I like what I hear, you can expect a repost from me on my Instagram for sure. As there's nobody who limits what I post there. For anything else marketing, promotion, or creative-related, feel free to leave a message on your submission if you're in need of assistance and we can talk outside of Groover as to what kind of options I offer there.
