“Insane, genius, mathematical, scientific” are only several words that illustrate the musical intellect that is Jah Born, world-known producer and “Sample Samurai”. The Dallas bred producer is not only responsible for stamping Dallas onto the map of musical hierarchy, he also planted the seed of “Neo Soul” into the music industry; therefore allowing Dallas to gain the respect of the industry’s A-list creative minds. At the age of 13, Jah Born started to construct beats learning from the the creative wisdom of Dallas legend DJ Baby G. After years of perfecting his talent, history was finally made in 1997 when the beat maker produced the track “On and On” for a local artist named Erykah Badu. The single would soon ignite the careers of the two close friends and label Badu “The Queen of Neo Soul.” In 1998, “On and On” earned the producer 2 Grammy Awards and went on to claim triple platinum status. In the song, Badu would spit the line, “Mad props to the god Jah Born,” which gained the Dallas-based producer household familiarity around the world.
The success of the single was only the beginning for the young Super Producer. Jah Born would go on to produce multiple tracks with Badu including “And On” (Mama’s Gun), “Your Loving Me”, “Jump up in the Air & Stay There” (Erykah Badu / Lil’ Wayne) and RC & The Gritz featuring Erykah Badu “Leave Me Alone”.
Over the span of his career, Jah has worked with numerous artists including Rza, Will Smith, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Raheem DeVaughn, Ice Cube, Scarface, Bilal, Paul Wall, Tela, MC Ren, D.O.C., Chino XL, Raskass, Rah Digga, and others..The list goes on to include many producers such as RC Williams, Symbolic One, Shaun Martin, Picnictyme, Mic Most, Mr. Lee, 9th Wonder, Tony CommonFolk Ballard and more.
Jah Born is a part of Dallas based eclectic Hip Hop Bands RC & The Gritz, and The Cannabinoids. Formed in 2006 - RC & The Gritz were the official band of the Dallas Mavericks in 2010, playing at pre-game at home games in the 2011 championship season and playoffs. The Gritz have also been nominated and won “Best Band” awards from the Dallas Observer over the years.
Erykah Badu constructed the electro experimental hip hop band called “The Cannabinoids” and Jah Born is the Drum Machinist in the band...The Cannabinoids (#Noids) are a collective of producers and the band’s stage setup is comprised of laptops, turntables, keyboards, and drum machines. The group has toured all over the world with Erykah Badu and has performed at Yo Gabba Gabba LIVE, House of Blues, SXSW, Trees Dallas, Hollywood Palladium, Nokia Theater LA, Afro Punk Fest NYC, The Warfield San Francisco, The Wiltern Los Angeles, The Paramount Theater Oakland CA and Seattle WA, Fox Theater, The UIC Pavilion Chicago, Best Buy Theater NYC, the Red Bull Soundclash Starfes’ in Tokyo.
In 2015 Jah Born and Super-Producer Da Dreak formed the Collective “Black Scientist”. They started assembling beats with a vision of producing artists and releasing “Beat Tapes”. Jah Born also formed “Tha Beatitudes” - a raw hip hop band that eventually became Rza’s stage band in from 2016-2018. This is also the time period when Jah Born started working with upcoming artist Flower Child.
From 2017 to currently - Jah and his brother Robski formed “Galaxy 9 Productions” - an event production company that has brought many world renown Hip-Hop artists to perform in Dallas. Some of the artists on that list include: Onyx, Styles P, Camp Lo, Rza, Rah Digga, Sa-Roc, Large Professor, Slick Rick, AZ, Cappadonna, Smoke Dza, Statik Selektah, Michael “5000” Watts, Benny The Butcher, Conway, Westside Gun, Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Lyric Jones, Big Tuck, Mike Jones, and many more legendary hip hop acts.
