Bio
I’m Douglas Eriksen, and I've spent the last 12 years immersed in the music industry across the UK, US, and Africa.
As a touring musician, artist manager, record producer, contract advisor, and music journalist, I've had the privilege to see this industry from every angle. I hold a BA Hons in Commercial Music and a degree in Blockchain Strategy from the University of Oxford, where I’ve specialized in using emerging tech to push the boundaries of music distribution and marketing.
My expertise spans across mixing and mastering engineering, with over a decade of experience working in Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, Ableton, and Studio One. I’m passionate about curating music that feels authentic—genres like folk, soul, gospel, hip-hop, rap, indie, and lofi resonate with me deeply. I look for tracks that are emotionally rich, thought-provoking, and push the limits of storytelling or creativity.
What I’m Looking For:
I appreciate music that’s raw, soulful, and real. My focus is on tracks that can make you reflect, tell a compelling story, or simply get lost in the vibe. Whether it’s an acoustic folk track or a hard-hitting rap single, I’m drawn to innovative music that’s not afraid to be different.
What I Avoid:
I’m not a fan of generic pop or tracks that feel overly manufactured. I stay clear of cookie-cutter sounds and millennial “whoops” that lack sincerity.
A Few Noteworthy Moments:
> Our label, Folkboy Records, recently had a showcase on BBC Radio 6 Music, live to millions of listeners.
> I worked on a single with Hopsin at Kosher Recording Studios.
> I was a sound engineer and assistant producer for The Voice South Africa and The Voice Nigeria.
> Co-produced multiple charting tracks as an independent producer.
> Ran my own studio, Banshee Recording Studios in Cape Town.
> Currently, I’m the Chief Innovation Officer at Folkboy Records in London, overseeing a label with over 20 million streams and 116k monthly listeners.
Why Choose Me?
Aside from my hands-on experience, I’ve helped position underprivileged creatives from Africa and emerging markets to build sustainable careers in music. I’m also pushing the envelope in how we can use technology like blockchain to transform the industry.
And, yes—I once helped Shakira with her luggage at the airport. True story!
