We’re Signal Alchemy—an independent Canadian record label dedicated to a form of ambient music that’s deeply connected to the natural world. Since 2018, we’ve been curating and releasing music that blends slow-evolving instrumental composition with field recordings drawn from forests, lakeshores, birds, rainfall, and wind. This style is often called organic ambient—and it’s at the heart of everything we do. Based in Hamilton, Ontario, we operate as a small, fully remote label with a global roster of artists. Our artists come from across Europe, North America, and Africa, each bringing their own approach to ambient composition, but all sharing a common philosophy: that music can offer presence. That it can be shaped not just by instruments and ideas, but by landscape, memory, and stillness. We release albums that feature birdsong, shoreline waves, and gentle rain—not as background effects, but as integral parts of the music. We work with artists who use analogue synths, electric guitar, piano, and original field recordings to build soundscapes that feel intentional, immersive, and reflective. This is not chill-out music or algorithmic filler. It’s music made with care. Today, our catalogue reaches over 25 million streams per month on Spotify, with several of our artists each drawing more than half a million monthly listeners. Our releases appear regularly on major playlists like Meditate to the Sounds of Nature, Ambient Dreamscapes, Forest Bathing, Wild Ambience, Atmospheres, and New Age Now. We also act as curators. Our flagship Spotify playlist, Calming Music + Nature Sounds, has grown to more than 125,000 followers, and has become one of the most reliable discovery channels for fans of nature-infused ambient music. We update it every week and use it to introduce our audience to both new releases and timeless pieces. We don’t think of ourselves as trendsetters or genre inventors—but we are proud to be part of the global conversation around organic ambient music, and to have helped bring this quiet, restorative form of composition to a wider audience.
