For the past eight years, I've been deep in the weeds of the digital music world over at YouTube Music. My main focus was all about the big partnerships with the major record labels. A lot of my time was spent navigating the relationship between them and YouTube Music, making sure everything was running smoothly. Beyond the paperwork, a big part of my job was figuring out how to help artists actually make more money through the platform. That meant understanding the intricacies of how DSPs work and connecting the right people internally and externally to make those deals and initiatives happen. I was doing this for both the North American and European markets, so it was a pretty broad scope.
More recently, I've also started working with a really interesting company in Sweden called Epidemic Sound. You might know them for their mood music library and they’ve also acquired Soundly and a couple of mood music record labels. Well, they're now stepping into the world of commercial music, which is super exciting. My role there is kind of like a bridge – I'm helping them connect with the world of DSPs, leveraging my experience to make those new partnerships and integrations successful.
